An event like nothing Stockholm has ever seen. No passive consumers, only active participants. THE BIZARRE STAR BAZAAR is a festival where all content is created by the participants themselves. It is a part of a network of regional events connected to the Burning Man festival in Black Rock, Nevada. It is a blank canvas, on which we are all invited to come paint. Over a weekend, we will fill up 2000 sqm at Nobelberget, creating art, music, dance, performance and play - all shaped and initiated by the community (that means you).

When the first people arrive on Wednesday 9th, there will just be an empty room, and over the first two days, we will start filling it up. You can come and build whenever you have time, the space is open from 10:00 AM to 03:00 AM. On Friday night we will have the opening ceremony. Saturday will be the culmination of the event, leading in to a collaborative teardown and afterglow on Sunday 13th. Opening hours are 10:00 to 03:00 all days. The bar is open Friday and Saturday night.

Early bird tickets will sell until Feb 8 and cost 400 SEK.Starting Feb 9, the price will be raised to 500 SEK.

Participation

First of all, creativity is not a performance sport. No one will rate you, no one will demand anything from you. You are welcome just as you are, and you are free to contribute in just the shape of form that you feel comfortable with.

Each and everyone contributes in their own way to this magnificent experience. It could be an interactive art project, free hugs, a trolley for giveaway smoothies, an army of friendly drones, an open stage for improvised performances or just a silent place to meditate. Big or small, all ideas are welcome to our collaborative Star Bazaar!

Art Grants

We aim to give as much of the money gathered for tickets back to the community in the form of art grants. Art grants are a financial support that each creation can apply for. This might cover some of the expenses, but be prepared to handle your own budget. Not all creations will be granted financial support.

A first round of art grants went out on Friday March 4. A second round will go out after the event, once we know how much money we have left :)

Because of our nonexistent cashflow, the rest will be given out after the event.

Now what? How do I get involved?

Weekly meetings at The Node in Sickla

Starting Jan 7, we are organizing weekly work meet-ups at "The Node" on Nobelberget, just next to the main hall where the event will be. Anyone is free to come join there. You can find info about the next upcoming meetups here.

FAQ

What will I get for the ticket?

Access to a big empty playground.
Water, toilets, power, security.
The opportunity to apply for art grants.

That is all. Everything else, including, but not limited to, food, extension chords, sound system, shelter, candy, art, hugs, clothing, music, dreams, medical supplies, fire safety, common sense, cleaning, loving and dancing will be up to the participants of the Bazaar to provide.

How much do I have to work?

So, what does it mean to "participate", to contribute?Well, only you can be the judge of your own self-expression. Whether you build giant contraptions, play music, make smoothies or give excellent massages, you do it on your own conditions. It is up to you to find a way of contributing that you are comfortable with. Along your way, you will find many who are willing to help you, and many who will be needing help. Participation is not about performance, it's a way of looking at the world around you as an opportunity to give.

Will there be X at The Bizarre Star Bazaar?

Yes. If you make it happen.

Can I play music/DJ at The Bizarre Star Bazaar?

Yes, if you bring a sound system or find someone who will bring a sound system. As the bazaar will be fairly crowded, with a lot of different music, performances and moods, there will be some restrictions on how loud you can play.

How about alcohol?

Due to Swedish laws, the only alcohol allowed will be sold by the venue. The bar will be open 18.00-03.00 on Friday and Saturday night. Do not bring your own alcohol to the event.

Can I bring my kids to the Bazaar?

Children and teenagers under the age of 18 can come to the Bazaar when there is no alcohol being sold. This means you can bring them on the 9th, 10th, and during daytime on the 11th and 12th. Children enter free of charge if accompanied by a parent or caretaker.

Who cleans up? What is this “Leave no Trace”-thing?

Leaving No Trace means being mindful of the trash - or "Matter Out Of Place" (MOOP) - we create around us. Think of this as being your best friend's house party. If you realize you have trash in your hand, put it in a trash can instead of leaving it on a table. If you have a bottle, recycle it immediately when it gets empty, instead of postponing it until another time.

The Sunday, March 13, is dedicated to dismounting and removing any projects built during the week and weekend. You are responsible for removing anything that you brought to the location. Some recycling will be provided, but if you bring bigger stuff, you need to have a way to get it back out.

How do I bring stuff to the Bazaar?

You can drive straight into the venue at all times except 20.00-03.00 on Friday and Saturday night (then you have to unload on the parking lot next to the venue). If you need help with transport, please ask around in #logistics on Slack

Will there be a place to check in clothing or valuables?

There will only be an unmanned coat check / storage. Neither Nobelberget or Urban Burn will take responsibility for any items lost during the event.

It's only March! How cold is it going to be?

It's indoors, and we have some heating, but it's not very warm. If you're not dancing you might want to keep a good sweater or a jacket on even indoors.

Will there be tickets sold at the door?

No. Ticket sales end on March 8, the day before the event starts. It will not be possible to buy a ticket at the door.

I'm a member of the media, how do I get accreditation?

We treat everyone the same, and do not give out media passes. You are more than welcome to join us as a co-creator, by buying a ticket and participate fully in co-creating the event! For other media inquiries, please contact Gustaf Josefsson, 0709-854979.
